O - Orange Power

This post is a part of the A to Z Challenge. This year I have decided to go themeless. Each day I will post about whatever topic pops into my head. The result of this spontaneity is anyone's guess. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

Orange has a special meaning for us PokeFans. For the unitiated, that means Oklahoma State University Cowboys fans. OSU orange is a way of life for those of us lucky enough to call ourselves alumni. Granted, there are fans of OSU that never attended the university, but not as many as some other schools. There is a saying around here, that if you see someone wearing an OSU shirt, they probably went to OSU. If you see someone wearing an OU (Sooner, blech!) shirt, they probably went to Wal-Mart.

Those of us who have weathered the less than ideal years of OSU athletics that were the early 90s football and the last few years of basketball know that being a die-hard fan can be difficult at best. It requires a feeling of belonging and attachment that many fans don't understand. There is a camaraderie that develops when you sit in the stands for every home game of an 0-10-1 football season. Seeing all the fans that toughed it out to the "and one" of the oh-ten-and-one season joyously screaming "We didn't lose!" when tying lowly Iowa State is a memory that lasts a lifetime.

There are many things about my college days I'd rather forget, but I still bleed orange. Every Friday is Orange Friday. Every game is a must-win, and OU will always be the enemy. It's day 15 of the A-to-Z Challenge, and OU still sucks!

Go Pokes!
